Person-Centred Counselling for Adults

A safe space to explore what you're experiencing, without judgement or pressure.

Sometimes life becomes difficult to make sense of.

You may be dealing with something that has happened to you, adjusting to a major change, living with uncertainty, or simply finding that things feel harder than they used to.

You don't need to have everything figured out before starting counselling.

At Ember Wellness, I offer person-centred, trauma-informed and neuro-affirming counselling for adults aged 18 and over, online from Shrewsbury and across the UK.

My role isn't to tell you what to do or give you all the answers. It's to offer a safe, confidential space where you can slow things down, explore what's happening and begin to understand yourself and your experiences in a different way.

Areas I specialise in

  • I have a particular interest and specialism in supporting adults experiencing:
  • Chronic illness and health changes
  • Living with chronic illness can affect far more than your physical health.
  • It can affect your identity, relationships, independence, work, confidence and hopes for the future. You may also be dealing with uncertainty, changes to your body or a sense of loss around the life you expected to have.
  • Counselling can provide space to explore these experiences and everything that comes with them.

Life-limiting illness and end-of-life experiences

Facing a life-limiting illness can bring complicated and sometimes conflicting emotions.

There may be fear, anger, grief, uncertainty, acceptance, questions about identity or concerns about the people around you.

There doesn't need to be a particular way you are expected to feel. Counselling can offer a space to talk openly about whatever is present for you.

Grief and loss

Grief isn't limited to bereavement.

We can experience grief following the loss of a person, relationship, identity, health, independence, future plans or way of life.

I offer a space where those experiences can be explored without judgement and without expectations about how you “should” be grieving.

Neurodivergence

I offer a neuro-affirming approach to counselling and recognise that people can experience and communicate emotions in different ways.

You don't need to mask, perform or communicate in a particular way for therapy to work.

We can explore experiences such as identity, masking, overwhelm, relationships, self-understanding and the impact of navigating a world that isn't always designed with neurodivergent people in mind.

I also work with

You may find counselling helpful when you're experiencing:

  • Anxiety or persistent worry
  • Stress and emotional overwhelm
  • Low mood
  • Trauma or difficult experiences
  • Relationship difficulties
  • Self-esteem and confidence issues
  • Identity and life transitions
  • Work-related stress
  • Difficult emotions or patterns you are struggling to understand
  • Major changes in your life
  • You don't need a diagnosis to come to counselling.
  • You also don't need to know exactly what is wrong.
  • Sometimes knowing that something doesn't feel right is enough of a place to start.

My approach

My foundation is person-centred counselling.

This means I don't see you as a problem that needs fixing. You are the expert in your own experience.

Our work is collaborative and guided by what feels important to you.

My practice is also trauma-informed and neuro-affirming, and I draw on elements of other therapeutic approaches where appropriate, including CBT, Gestalt and ACT.

The approach is adapted to you rather than expecting you to adapt to a particular therapeutic model.

What happens in counselling?

Our first session is an opportunity to begin getting to know one another and explore what has brought you to counselling.

There is no expectation that you will immediately tell me everything.

We can talk about what you're hoping for from counselling, what feels difficult at the moment and what you would like support with.

From there, we'll work together at a pace that feels manageable for you.

Some sessions may involve talking through something that has happened. Others may involve noticing patterns, exploring emotions, making sense of experiences or simply having somewhere safe to put thoughts that have been difficult to carry alone.

Online counselling

Sessions are offered online, allowing you to access counselling from a space where you feel comfortable.

Online counselling can be particularly helpful if travelling is difficult, if you have fluctuating health or energy levels, or if being in a familiar environment helps you feel more at ease.
